Lanka Hospitals, the internationally accredited, multiple award-winning healthcare provider and the National Youth Corps (NYC) have partnered together to offer professional training in caregiving for youth.
The partnership will provide students of the Youth Corps batch of 2022 essential leadership development training followed by on-site caregiver training at Lanka Hospitals for a period of two and a half months. The programme, which enable students to obtain the NVQ Level-3 certificate, accredited by Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), will be conducted by Lanka Hospitals Academy (LHA), Lanka Hospitals established educational body which aims to train and produce skilled healthcare professionals.
Upon the successful completion of the programme, a Japanese language programme will also be conducted for students of the National Youth Corps, through the Bureau of Foreign Employment. This additional service will be beneficial to those who seek employment in Japan or other countries overseas.
The partnership MOU was signed by Deepthi Lokuarachchi, Group Chief Executive Officer – Lanka Hospitals and Colonel Dharshana Ratnayake, Chairman – National Youth Corps in the presence of Saman Kulasuriya, Additional Director Training and Development – National Youth Corps and other senior personnel representing both organisations.
“The Lanka Hospitals Academy (LHA) was established in 2019 with the aim to produce healthcare professionals with the necessary skills to serve in Sri Lanka and the South Asian region. LHA offer fully-equipped clinical training programmes, which are vital to train healthcare professionals. The programmes offered by LHA are designed and conducted by a team of highly qualified Sri Lankan medical and educational professionals attached to leading local universities in the country. The LHA will offer students of the National Youth Corps a value-added experience that will ultimately lead to obtaining a highly recognised National Vocational Qualification,” stated Mr. Deepthi Lokuarachchi, Lanka Hospitals’ Group Chief Executive Officer.

The primary objective of the National Youth Corps is to produce youth who are skilled and possess the leadership that is required to contribute towards the development of the country,” stated Colonel Dharshana Ratnayake, National Youth Corps Chairman.
Lanka Hospitals Academy offers a range of programmes including nurses training from the Lanka Hospitals School of Nursing, the Diploma in Hospital and Community Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Technology and certificate programmes in Phlebotomy, pharmacy practice, cannulation training, Dialysis training, First Aid and Basic Life Support, Caregiver Training and Observership Programmes for upper school students and university medical students. Additionally, the academy offers tailored-made training programmes for leading organisations and institutions.
The National Youth Corps is a dedicated organisation for youth development and is committed to establish leadership among the country’s youth and to pave the way for talented youth with strong leadership who can contribute towards the growth and development of the country. The National Youth Corps was established under the Parliament Act No. 21 of 2002 and commenced its operation through the Youth Corps Regulation No. 01-2003 of the Gazette Notification No.1309/17 dated 10th October 2003.
